As far as stop off’s go this was a pretty spectacular one, all the history, all the archaeology and all the theatre! I wanted to pack as much as possible into my 20 hour time in the Greek capital.
Firstly figuring out the Metro… despite my observation that the Greeks don’t seem to pay to use it, I thought I better had, didn’t want to get in trouble! It’s really easy once you’ve nailed the ticket stamping part, if you’ve ever used the Underground this is more of the same, plus cheaper! I headed to Monastiraki which is near the Acropolis, bars, restaurants and the large market, with amazing shopping, bring Euro’s I have warned you!
Without boring you with the historic details, here are some of my shots of the Acropolis… and a tortoise!
Everywhere you go in Athens you are surrounded by historic architecture, monuments and ancient ruins!
Temple of Olympian Zeus…
All pretty spectacular right?! The photo’s don’t do it justice, it’s awe inspiring when you’re there! Make sure it’s on your list’s.
